Your Life As A Cosmetologist

Assume that you have gone through the whole process of getting your degrees, certifications and licenses and have successfully established your own salon. What would a regular day for you look like?
09:00 am to 11:00am
You would go to work at a time that suits you according to your other commitments, and open the salon. You would probably spend an hour making sure that the place is organized, clean and ready to receive clients. You would have a word with your staff about what needs to be done and go over the appointment schedules.
11:00am to 12:30pm
In comes the first appointment; a haircut. You interact with the client, hearing her/him out about what they are looking for and what kind of a lifestyle they have so you can suggest a look that is trendy yet manageable. You answer their queries, reassure them that they are in good hands and set off working your magic. As you wrap up, a client comes in asking for a skin consultation and the best make-up tips to accentuate her features and hide her under eye circles.
12:30pm to 1:30pm
You take a break for some coffee and work on tallying some financials. You check in with the other clients being serviced by your employees and make sure that everything is in order. Just when everything was going well, you see a client coming in looking quite distressed. Her previous dyeing job didn’t go as she expected and she wants it re-done. After you discuss the matter with her and offer a discount, you start work on setting her color straight.
1:30pm to 3:00pm
Telephones are ringing, vendors are coming to deliver the products you ordered and the equipment is being cleaned and sterilized after each client. You have to keep an eye on everything. A special client specially asks for you to do her manicure, and in the process shares stories of marital dysfunction. Another haircut and a few facials later, with a hurried lunch break in between you settle in to have a chat with an employee who wants a salary raise.
3:00pm to 6:00pm
To wrap up the day, you have a celebrity client coming in for a makeover for an upcoming movie premiere. That takes up a few hours, at the end of which you are exhausted yet satisfied. Another good day gone by doing what you love and earning good money along the way, and that too with enough time left to enjoy some alone or family time.
There might be variations to this routine but this is pretty much the gist of it. If you are someone who is into hair and beauty styling, love to dress up and advise others on fashion then this career warrants a try from you. If you want a work-day similar to the one I illustrated above then you should start researching about a cosmetology degree and take the next step towards this fantastic profession. You’re already obsessed with looking good and making others look good; why not make good money doing it?
