Head Start Your Career In Photography

To head start your career in photography, first and foremost you need to earn a Bachelor or more preferably Masters Degree in photography from an accredited college or university. There is no point earning degree from non-accredited college as employers are not going to accept that degree.

Practical training

When it comes to making career in the field of photography, it is of paramount importance that you get a right kind of practical training during the study. Even if you are quite good theoretically, you are going to struggle in this field if you haven’t received right kind of practical training from your instructors. Let assume you are aware of the zoom function in the camera but have not operated this function in camera as yet. In this scenario, you will not be able to get a decent quality picture as mastering zoom function requires quite a bit of practice.

Freelancing

If you are looking for a quick progress, it is advisable that you do some freelancing at the time of studying. This will not only give you the overview of photography industry and how it works but more importantly you will have something to show to the prospective employers as soon as you earn a degree. There are plenty of magazines operating that take the services of freelance photographers. You can work as a freelance photographer for these magazines. The most important thing to note about these magazines is that apart from giving you byline they also provide some financial incentive as well.

Experience

Field of photography is quite competitive in nature and therefore how much experience you possess is very vital. In case if you do not get high-salary job offers after earning a degree, it is advisable that you accept low-salary job offers instead of rejecting them. The significant factor here is that even when your job profile is not that high, fact of the matter is that your experience level is increasing. And that is where when you apply for a new job with an experience of say three or four years, you are going to get much better job opportunities.

Online or traditional classroom setup

You can earn photography degree through two ways, traditional classroom setup and online education. When you earn photography degree through traditional classroom setup, you give yourself a much better chance of attaining success as there are number of employers that do not take the services of individuals with online degrees. However, online education can turn out to be quite useful if you happen to be a working professional and do not have the time to attend regular classes, as is the case with traditional classroom setup.

In traditional classroom setup, you are going to get lot more support from the faculty members. This is not the case in an online environment where you will not be able to interact with the faculty members once the class is over. Scope of practical training is also quite limited in an online environment.
