Online Degree – Is my hard work and money worth anything?

September 22nd, 2008

Colleges and universities are changing to suit the high tech business world. They know that many people do not have the time or the money to take courses to earn a degree. So they have introduced online learning. It involves the usage of various learning tools provided over the internet. This form of learning is very appropriate for working adults who would have never taken up higher education if online degrees were not available.

Reasons:

There are many reasons that make an online degree a great value for the money and make it effective in terms of time and effort. The Online Degrees are very cost effective as there is the benefit of career enhancement or getting a new job. With respect to time, it is worth the effort as students need not discontinue their jobs. Instead, they can pursue higher education along with it and study during when it is convenient. They also need not worry about traveling to attend class as it is done in the comfort of their homes.

Money Matters:

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employees holding an online Bachelor degree earn about around $10,000 a year more than those with an Associate degree. The salary increases substantially for those with a Master degree which is about around $12,000 or more than a Bachelor’s degree annually. This increase in salaries clearly indicates that higher education results in higher salary. Clearly taking an online degree program is worth the effort.

Are you ready for an Online Degree?

September 17th, 2008

Online education is fast becoming popular and is considered one of the best forms of learning. For students to decide on the type of online degree they want to choose, they need to do adequate research and choose a course that will enhance their professional skills and develop their career. For students to be ready for online distance education, they need to be aware of certain aspects of distance education.

Accreditation:

Students need to make sure that the online college they choose is accredited by a valid accrediting agency. When an online college is accredited, it indicates that the college adheres to certain educational standards. It enables students to transfer their credits to other institutions, online or traditional. It also helps in acquiring better jobs as well as promotions at work.

Background Checking:

Students need to be aware of unaccredited online courses offered by degree mills. There are also many unauthorized organizations that offer fake accreditation to colleges. Students need to check the credentials of the colleges by checking with the US Department of Education or CHEA to check the accreditation of a particular college.

Faculty and Classes:

The quality and experience of the faculty members plays a prominent role in deciding on the online course and college. Students need to make sure that round-the-clock support is offered by instructors, faculty members and technical staff in case of any technical problems. The most critical point when deciding on the college is whether they offer financial aid in the form of loans, scholarships or grants.
